Bangladesh seal Historic Win

Bangladesh overran the West Indies to clinch their first overseas cricket series win. And the young Bangladesh cricket team did so in style. They defeated the once upon a time Kings of cricket, two test matches in a row. The first one on July 13th came 4½ years after their first ever Test win, when Bangladesh beat West Indies by 95 runs in St Vincent. It was an overall brilliant performance on part of the Bangladesh team.

It is the beginning of a new era for Bangladesh cricket for sure.

On the other hand it is a sad day for West Indies cricket. They have had several issues including the most result contracts dispute between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA). Due to this dispute their leading players are on stike. The original 13-man squad picked by the board for the Bangladesh Tests at home had boycotted the series due to a disagreement over contractual issues. The strike forced the selectors to pick a second-string side which lost both Tests, handing Bangladesh their first overseas series victory.

Clive Lloyd and Michael Holding have blamed the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) for dragging West Indian cricket into a corner. Holding, part of Lloyd's famous fast-bowling quartet that helped establish West Indies' dominance in the 1970s, said the blame lay with both WIPA and the WICB. "The WICB are a dysfunctional organization that need to realize they are dealing with a modern game and changing times," he said. "They have been left behind due to their inept staff and an outdated board of directors, most of whom take up space instead of offering something to the organization or the game."
