A Journey to The Moon

Forty years ago today Man created history by landing on Earth's Moon. That feat is yet to be matched. 40 years back on 20th of July in 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on Moon. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing, Google today announced the release of Moon in Google Earth, bringing us earthlings one step closer to understanding the experience of standing on the moon. It brings the Apollo stories out of the history books, recreating them in an immersive and interactive 3D environment.

Google is hosting an event Monday to launch the Moon in Google Earth site at the Newseum in Washington, D.C., where Anousheh Ansari (X PRIZE Foundation, and first female private space explorer) and Buzz Aldrin will speak.

You will need the latest version of Google Earth to experience the magic. Download Google Earth 5.0. To experience Moon in Google Earth, select Moon from the toolbar in Google Earth. From there, the viewer zooms down to get detailed images of the moon’s surface.

Check the official Google blog for the details.
