You Should Have Seen This

Source: theFundooGeek!

Greg Rutter compiled a definitive list of the 99 things you should have already experienced on the Internet, aptly titling his collection ‘YouShouldHaveSeenThis.com’. The site is completely bare bones, except for the 99 links on it.

These include everything from the news reporter who had a funny fall while squashing grapes to the dancing ‘numa numa’ boy. The list is useful for anyone who is either new to the Internet, or someone who doesn’t want to feel left out in any conversation! More importantly, if you are just looking to while away some time, this is a great place to visit.

In fact, Rutter’s venture has been so successful that he created a second list of 99 things to see on the Web, called the ‘YouShouldHaveAlsoSeenThis.com’.

Renewing Vows in Indian Style

Source: Times Of India: Mumbai Edition

An American couple renewed their wedding vows in Thane (near Mumbai/Bombay, India) on their 10th anniversary yesterday, 8/26. Nothing unusual about that, correct?

Wrong! Although American, they decided to do it the Indian way. Dressed in a traditional Saree and Sherwani, the couple, Ignatio Diaz and Kattia, tied the knot again, according to Vedic customs. The Bride and Groom arrived at the reception riding an elephant with baraatis dancing and cheering along the way.

"We decided to renew our vows according to the Hindu rites as we are fascinated by their rich culture and customs", said a thrilled Ignatio.

Know the Actual Signal Strength on Your BlackBerry

Source: Digital Inspiration:

You can check the signal strength in your BlackBerry (or any other mobile phone for that matter) by taking a quick glance at the signal bar. The bars give an approximate idea of the signal strength but, looking at the bars, you won’t be able to determine minor fluctuations in signal that may occur when you move across different rooms in your house or when you accidentally cover the cellular antenna of the phone with your hands. Everybody likes seeing they've got full bars on their cell phone but what exactly do the bars translate to? How much of a signal hit does it take to drop from three to two bars? Would you like to see the actual signal strength on your BlackBerry?

Well then, today is your lucky day. This simple hack will switch your Blackberry signal reporting from bars to actual dBm (decibels).

Hold down the ALT key on your BlackBerry and type the letters NMLL in the same sequence — the bar graph indicating signal strength will convert into real numbers indicating the exact strength in dBm.

You can key in the same sequence to return to Bar Graph mode. The signal range should be anywhere between –40 dBm and –100 dBm for you to send and receive data /calls. The higher the number, the better the signal.

Of course, you can always go to the Status screen [Options => Status] to see the strength in dBm.

Happy Independence Day India!!

theFundooGeek! wishing from USA :

Happy Independence Day - 2010, India!!!

The Independence Day of India is celebrated on August 15th to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. On the stroke of midnight, a country came into life again as the British handed over the governance of India to the Indian leaders. The British government declared the country independent and left for their own shores.

It was on this historic date that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime Minister of India, unfurled the Indian tricolor on the ramparts the magnificent Red Fort, symbolically marking the end of the British colonial rule. This has become tradition where each and every Indian Prime Minister hoists the Indian Tricolor flag on the Red Fort on 15th August every year and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts.

To our Indian patrons, best wishes on India's Independence Day from all of us @ FundooGeek.com

The Brain’s Secret to Sleeping Like a Log

Source: Wired.com:

Being a light sleeper, I've asked myself countless times, "Why can some people sleep through anything?".

According to this article in Wired Science, some lucky people have an extra helping of a certain kind of brain static that essentially blocks out noise and other stimuli. These 'sleep spindles' can be detected via EEG, and show up as brief bursts of high-frequency brain waves; some people naturally produce more than others.
